Understanding Your Birkenstocks
Your sandals have three components: Footbed, Sole and Straps. The Footbed is made of cork and has suede leather lining. The sole is what hits the road and straps hold everything together.
What’s in Your Kit
Footbed cleaner, Nylon brush, 220 sandpaper, Cellulose cloth
Cleaning Steps
- To clean the footbed, unfasten the buckles. In an empty container, mix 3 to 4 tablespoons of footbed cleaner with 3 to 4 tablespoons of water. Wet the footbed under running water for 2 minutes, then spread half of the mixture evenly on the footbed. Using the nylon brush with medium pressure, scrub the footbed in circular motions for 5 to 7 minutes.
- To clean the straps, mix dish soap and water in equal parts (50:50) in a container. Apply the mixture to the straps and scrub with the nylon brush using circular motions.
- Rinse the whole sandals under running water for 5–7 minutes to get rid of all the cleaning agents.
- Pat dry with the cellulose cloth.
- Air dry 48–72 hours in shade.
- Once dry, use the sand paper to gently remove any dark spots in circular motion. This will not hurt the footbed. Footbed should feel fuzzy and uniform.
